It seemed that the distance from Santiago, Chile to Lima, Peru was far away. In total, it took more than 56 hours. This was the first time in my life that I had been on a bus for so long. Suddenly, I was worried about my health. First of all, I thought that I had to eat well. I decided to have fun. People were also relatively friendly. And since the situation seemed to be gradually calming down, the atmosphere in the terminal seemed to be getting more and more lively. It's happening on the other side of Seoul right now. It looked a little brighter than Chile.

Another 24-hour bus journey began. It was fortunate to be able to purchase bus tickets to Lima even though the terminal function was paralyzed due to the heavy rain. The original plan was to go directly to Puno or Cusco, but the bus was cut off due to heavy rain, so there was no other choice.

I waited another 2 hours to catch the bus to Lima. This bus was a bit cleaner than the one in Chile. The fact that the sheets were clean made me feel so grateful. The bus started the long journey again. However, the bus shook a lot more than I expected. Apparently, the road was not good. The actual top speed was 90 km/h. Chile was 100 km, which was a contrast. The sea was to the left of the road, and the desert was to the right. Sandy deserts followed, and rocky deserts appeared. Sometimes you could see a green space like an oasis. The shape of the Andes was constantly changing. It showed various strange features.

Above all, the development of the desert was interesting. Also, there was a railroad track next to the road and you could see the sea below it. Development in South America seemed to require a lot of capital. Anyway, it was novel that Peru was trying to develop a desert. The railway in the desert was beyond my imagination. Just as Israel developed desert farmland, I would like to hope that Peru also developed deserts for further development.

In the future, the development of desert areas was likely to be a hot topic in the world. If the railroad was properly laid out, the desert would also be incorporated into the civilized world. Furthermore, there seemed to be more potential in the online era.

It also seemed meaningful for Korea to participate in the construction of these areas. Through the injection of funds necessary, Korea could lead the project financing. What if we could create a new culture and liquor suitable for the desert? Because the sea was right next to the desert, infinite possibilities were visible. Of course, it was clear that this was by no means an easy task. But it seemed worth thinking about and trying.

In order to advance to South America, it was difficult to speak only English. If you could not speak Spanish, you could not communicate at all. If you overcome the language barrier, there seemed to be no difficulty as far as the remaining business or nonbusiness matters are concerned. The sentiment was surprisingly similar to that of Korea in many ways. Further, they were favorable to Korea. In particular, the Korean Wave had a huge influence on South America. In that sense, it seemed necessary to study South America a little more. Of course, the current situation was not so good, but it seemed that many Korean workers need to enter South America. Support at the pan-government level should be prioritized. Since there were so many undeveloped resources, it seemed that the potential for big growth was high. Lima, Peru, and Buenos Aires, Argentina looked interesting.

Surprisingly, the car shook a lot and I got a little tired. I needed to close my eyes for a while. If I would not be able to sleep, I might get sick.

칠레의 산티아고에서 페루의 리마까지 멀기는 먼 모양이다. 도합 56시간 이상이 걸리는 거리다. 평생 이렇게 오래 버스 타기는 처음이다. 갑자기 건강이 걱정이 되었다. 무엇보다도 잘 먹어야 한다는 생각부터 들었다. 즐겁게 생각하기로 했다. 사람들도 비교적 친절하였다. 그리고 사태가 점차 진정되어 가는 것 같아서 터미널 분위기도 점차 활기차 보였다. 지금 서울의 가장 반대편에서 일어나고 있는 상황이다. 칠레보다는 좀 더 밝은 분위기로 보였다.

또 다시 24시간 이상의 버스 여행이 시작되었다. 폭우 사태로 터미널 기능이 마비되었는데도 리마 행 버스티켓을 구입할 수 있는 것만도 다행스러운 일이다. 원래 계획은 푸노나 쿠스코로 바로 갈 생각이었으나 폭우로 버스가 끊겨 선택의 여지가 없는 셈이다.

2시간을 더 기다려 리마 행 버스를 탈 수 있었다. 이 버스는 칠레의 버스보다 좀 깨끗했다. 시트가 깨끗한 것만 해도 너무 감사하게 느껴졌다. 버스는 다시 긴 여행을 시작한다. 그런데 생각보다 버스가 많이 흔들렸다. 아무래도 길이 좋지 않은 모양이다. 실제 최고 속도가 시속 90km다. 칠레는 100km인데 대조가 되었다. 도로 좌측으로 바다가, 오른쪽으로 사막이다. 모래사막이 이어지고 나아가 암반사막도 나타났다. 간혹 오아시스 같은 녹색의 공간도 보인다. 안데스산맥의 모습은 변화무상하다. 각종 진기한 형태의 모습을 보여준다.

무엇보다도 사막을 개발하는 모습이 흥미로웠다. 또 도로 옆에 철로가 놓여있고 그 아래 바다가 보인다. 남미의 개발은 아무래도 많은 자본이 필요해 보였다. 어쨌든 페루가 사막을 개발하려는 모습이 참신하다. 사막 위의 철도는 상상이상이기도 하다. 이스라엘에서 사막농토를 개발하였듯이 페루도 사막을 개발하여 더 많은 발전이 이루어지기를 바라고 싶다.

역시 앞으로 사막지역의 개발이 세계의 화두가 될 것 같다. 철도가 제대로 놓인다면 사막도 문명권으로 편입될 것이다. 나아가 온라인 시대에는 더 많은 잠재력이 있어 보인다.

한국이 이들 지역 건설에 참여한다는 것도 의미가 있어 보였다. 자금도 한국이 주도적으로 프로젝트 파이낸싱할 수도 있을 것이다. 사막에 맞는 새로운 문화와 주류를 만들면 어떨까. 사막 바로 옆이 바다이기 때문에 무한한 가능성이 보이였다. 물론 쉬운 일은 결코 아닌 것임은 분명하다. 그러나 고민하여 시도해볼 가치는 있어 보인다.

남미 진출을 위해선 영어만으론 곤란하다. 스페인어가 아니면 의사소통이 전혀 안 된다. 언어장벽을 극복하면 나머지는 큰 어려움이 없어 보인다. 정서도 의외로 한국과 비슷한 면이 적지 않다. 한국에 대해서 호의적이다. 특히 한류는 남미에서 대단하다. 그런 의미에서 남미를 좀 더 연구할 필요가 있어 보인다. 물론 지금 상황은 열악하지만 많은 한국 인력이 남미에 진출할 필요가 있어 보인다. 범 정부차원에서의 지원이 선결되어야 할 것이다. 미개발 자원이 너무 많기 때문에 그만큼 잠재력과 성장가능성이 높아 보인다. 페루의 리마와 아르헨티나의 부에노스아이레스가 흥미로워 보인다.

의외로 차가 많이 흔들려 좀 피곤이 몰려온다. 잠시 눈을 좀 붙여야겠다. 잠이 오지는 않겠지만 그렇지 않으면 멀미라도 할 것 같기 때문이다.
